About Andy
Hospitality has been part of my life from the beginning. I grew up in a small family-run hotel in Scotland, where the rhythm of service and guest care was woven into daily life. Those early years not only gave me a deep respect for the industry, but also a lasting passion for family- and owner-run businesses. I saw first-hand that when people are supported and aligned, their potential can be unlocked - and that principle has guided my work ever since.
I refined my skills through a training programme with the Carlton Hotel and went on to gain international experience, broadening my perspective across diverse hospitality cultures. Eventually, I moved to Africa, where I adapted my expertise to the local context while working with some of the region’s most renowned high-end safari lodges and hotels. This blend of global knowledge and local insight has shaped my approach to creating exceptional guest experiences and helping teams thrive.
Before working independently, I spent 10 years leading group operations for the More Family Collection, one of Southern Africa’s most respected boutique hotel and lodge portfolios. There, I helped integrate and strengthen a diverse set of properties, including Madikwe Safari Lodge, Marataba Safari Lodge, The Stanley & Livingstone Boutique Hotel, and Lion Sands. A standout project in my career was the redevelopment of Cape Cadogan Boutique Hotel, a decade-long process that ranged from acquiring neighbouring properties to shaping the guest experience - a collaborative journey that resulted in something truly special.
Today, I work as an Independent Hospitality Projects & Operations Advisor, supporting small, high-end hospitality businesses. Whether starting something new or solving longstanding challenges, my role is to create structure, harness existing talent, and bring in the right people when needed. From development and refurbishment to turnaround strategies and team alignment, I tailor my support to what each business actually needs.
No two projects are the same, but what stays consistent is my commitment to creative problem solving, collaborative expertise, and thoughtful delivery. And beyond my professional life, I am also a dedicated family man - a role that gives me balance and perspective, and a constant reminder that hospitality, at its core, is about people.
Several of the properties I’ve worked on have gone on to receive recognition, including Condé Nast Traveller Awards.
