Lion Sands Game Reserve

Focus: New Wellness & Gym

At Lion Sands, the goal was to reimagine the wellness offering across the lodges - creating spaces that felt modern, restorative, and connected to nature. As Group Project Manager I was responsible for appointing the right team, managing budgets, and keeping the project on track across multiple locations.

We wanted the design to feel calm and immersive, using natural materials, glass, and flowing water to bring the outdoors in. The result is a series of light-filled, tranquil spaces that elevate the guest experience and reflect the spirit of Lion Sands.

Project Highlights:

- Oversaw the new build of three spa facilities and a gym, plus an upgrade of an existing spa.

- Worked with the team to deliver a contemporary wellness concept that feels authentic to the bush.

- Blended design, architecture, and nature through open layouts and natural textures.

- Strengthened the guest experience and revenue potential through design.

- Ensured operational functionality matched aesthetic intent.

Challenges:
Positioning the spa buildings along the riverbank meant balancing privacy, views, and environmental considerations. The challenge was to make each space feel secluded without disconnecting it from the landscape - a balance that required thoughtful collaboration between design and construction teams.
